    That’s Ifira island in the middle. Pango Point, just a kilometre further, is completely obscured by the rain.

    This statue was a gift from the People’s Republic of China to the people of Vanuatu to commemorate their independence in 1980. I suspect this was the sculptor’s first commission dealing with Melanesian subjects.
